
Job Description - Pastor of Family Ministries
Defining the search: Riverside is primarily looking to find a man who meets the biblical qualifications of an Elder who is currently serving or has served recently in the vocation of Pastor. The candidate will have proven and successful experience in pastoral ministry. The candidate will be both God-driven and motivated, pursuing the interests and ministry of the church to “equip the Saints.” Riverside Baptist Church is looking to fill the position of Pastor with an emphasis on Family Ministries within the church.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This Pastor will meet the qualifications of an Elder at Riverside Baptist Church. Each Elder is seeking to minister to the Body of Christ through prayer and teaching the Word of God. Additionally, each Staff Pastor/Elder has an area of special emphasis to oversee, in this case Ministries connected to the family as it relates to our mission to be:

The Pastor of Family Ministries will :
Lead/Discipleship (~10 hours) related to focus
At Riverside Baptist, we encourage a high level of congregational involvement in our ministries. With over a dozen leaders and 120 people serving, the Pastor of Family Ministries will ensure that other leaders and volunteers are equipped and resourced in family ministries. He will build and bring energy to teams that are serving the church (adult youth team, adult adventure club team, etc.). In the event that a Youth Intern is hired, this Pastor will also oversee and delegate tasks, especially related to youth & children (eg, games, planning, set up/tear down)
Events/Programs (20 hours) related to focus
Building on the above, we would love to see our family ministries grow to encourage
and deepen children, youth and parents’ walk with the Lord as well as facilitate evangelism in
our community and this director will plan various events and programs to facilitate this mandate.
1) Lead & Teach weekly Friday Youth Events (grades 7-12)
2) Implement weekly Adventure Club (grades 4-6)
3) Encourage, participate & advocate for discipleship in Sunday School (with Ministry Lead)
4) Available to lead/serve/participate in the VBC program (with or without VBC Ministry Leaders)
5) Other events/activities
Preaching: (~0-20 hours)
The Pastor of Family Ministries will be tasked to preaching at various times throughout the year and up to 30% of the preaching calendar, depending on the candidate. On those weeks in which he is scheduled to preach, it is assumed he will modify his schedule to accommodate the time needed to prepare and deliver a sermon.
Assimilation/Connection: (~5 hours)
Since Riverside is an Elder-led, congregational church, there is great value placed on membership. In many ways, the Pastor of Family Ministries will be the first point of contact for families new to the church. As such, he will: Connect new families with Small Groups & relevant ministries
- Teach in conjunction with the Elders, New Membership Classes
- Lead Men’s book studies/assist men’s events
3. Help foster relationships between new members and existing members.
As a full-time staff member: (5 hours)
1. Arrive prepared for and attend the regular staff meetings.
2. Attend and participate in all Elder meetings
3. Arrive early Sunday mornings for preparations & prayer.
4. Responsible for scheduling the volunteers under his oversight in Planning Center.
5. Responsible for teaching and keeping our Child Protection policies up to date and ensuring that each volunteer receives the training they need for their role.
6. Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must display godly character according to the New Testament’s qualifications for an elder/pastor/overseer in 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1. The candidate would ideally have a master’s degree related to Theology/Ministry (or working towards it) and have proven ministry experience in the local church. The candidate has been ordained in the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches or is willing to be.
COMPENSATION:
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience/education and is based upon an average 40-hour work week. Further details will be provided during the interview process.
